The newly constituted Members of the governing Council of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has attended a workshop to enlighten its members on the workings of the University system, their duties and responsibilities.
Sir Prof. Emeritus Kwame Sarpong, Chairman of Governing Council in his welcome address stated that the composition of the Council makes it a great team with the potential of making a positive impact for the betterment of the university. This, he said is because members have been drawn from diverse fields.
Prof Emeritus Kwame Sarpong showed much appreciation to Dr. Paul Effah for spending time to enlighten them and promised to make use of what they have received to promote the work of the University.
Dr. Paul Effah took members through the mission, vision and core values of the university and how to work towards the realization of the strategic plan. He stated that one characteristic of University is universality and that it must have students and teachers from many countries and must be unbiased. He therefore commended KNUST for admitting students from less endowed secondary schools.
In a presentation, he said that skills, creativity and being innovative are what make the difference and called on the council members to ensure that graduates have distinctive qualities. He added that graduates with first class honours, masters and PhD should be trained but the distinction should be the acquisition of the aforementioned qualities”.
He mentioned the responsibilities of the Council which included, ensuring good management, serving as a check on one another to promote good management, evaluating and supporting the Vice-Chancellor and most importantly, working to achieve the vision and mission of the University.
